Most of the art pieces I have created in the past couple years have been sculptural. My goal has been to transform the glass from a stiff sheet of color to a glorious undulating palette that is energized by light. The process is slow. Sheets of colored glass are cut and combined by melting in the kiln. It is possible that piles of glass are melted and remelted many times until the colors are sufficiently blended. Then they are again broken and combined in images which are fired yet again into the final piece. Each firing takes 12-24 hours and all of the sculptural pieces have been fired 4-6 times. You can see it takes a while. In the ‘down times’ there is space to rest and contemplate the next step.
